Several days ago when I did the March Control Freak blog hop, I got quite a few comments and emails asking me to make a tutorial on the ornament punch flower. Like I said before, this is not my original idea and I'm not sure who came up with it.
You will need the following products:
- 1" Circle Punch
- 3/4" Circle Punch
- Ornament Punch (still available for purchase on my website Item # 116794)
- Boho Blossoms Punch
- Cardstock: Orchid Opulence, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Pretty in Pink
- Ink: Always Artichoke, Summer Sun, Lovely Lilac, Regal Rose
- Sponge
- Dimensionals
- Glue Dots
- Pen or Pencil
Start with a 2" x 11" piece of Orchid Opulence cardstock. Score it at 1" down the entire length of the 11" piece. Using your Ornament Punch, line up the score line so it goes through the center of the ornament top down to the bottom of the ornament like this.
Punch out five Orchid Opulence Ornaments and three Certainly Celery Ornaments (I also scored a line down the center of the Certainly Celery ornaments). Punch out one 1" Circle and one 3/4" Circle from the Pretty in Pink cardstock. Punch out the Boho Blossom from So Saffron cardstock.
These are all of the punched pieces you need to make the flower. Sponge all of the edges of the punched pieces. I sponged...
- Orchid Opulence cardstock with Lovely Lilac ink
- Certainly Celery cardstock with Always Artichoke ink
- So Saffron cardstock with Summer Sun ink
- Pretty in Pink cardstock with Regal Rose ink
Take a pen or a pencil and curl the Almost Amethyst flower petals around it. You can see in this photo that the "top" of the ornament is on the left side of the pen.
Roll it completely around the pen and then take it off the pen. Roll all five petals the same way with the "top" of the ornament on the left side of the pen.
Roll the three leaf pieces the opposite direction with the ornament "top" on the right side of the pen.
I did not show this step in the photo above, but you want to punch out a scrap piece of cardstock using the 1" Circle punch. I used Almost Amethyst cardstock for this, but it doesn't matter what color you use because you won't see it once the flower is done. Cover the entire front of the 1" scrap cardstock in strong adhesive. You will be using this to adhere all five of the petals to.
Taking one ornament at a time, start interlocking the tops of the ornaments as shown in the photo above. I tucked one side of the ornament "top" behind the ornament next to it. If you're having trouble holding all of the ornaments in your hand at the same time, use the 1" Almost Amethyst circle to help you. Lightly place the ornaments on the adhesive so that you can still maneuver them around. Once you have all five ornaments interlocked, it will look like this.
Once you're happy with the way they are arranged, press them down firmly onto the adhesive on the 1" circle. You can barely see the 1" Almost Amethyst scrap piece in the very center of the petals.
Put a dimensional on the back of both Pretty in Pink circles and on the back of both So Saffron flowers. Adhere them together as shown in the photo.
Use the dimensional on the back of the largest circle to adhere it to the center of the flower.
Add a Glue Dot to the ornament top on the FRONT of each Certainly Celery ornament. Use the glue dots to adhere the leaves to the back of the flower petals.
That's it...you're done! I hope you find the tutorial helpful and that the explanations made sense. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for stopping by! ~Dannie
