Just a little over a week ago I attended a stamp meeting. We had a shoebox swap where everybody provided a project and we went around from station to station making each project. It was so much fun! It has been a long time since I've stamped and it was so therapeutic for me. The meeting reminded me of how much I love to stamp and got me in the mood to start creating cards again. Of course I turned to one of Julee's wonderful sketches for inspiration.
Before I show you the card I created....I have a confession to make. My stamp room is a DISASTER!!! I can barely find the chair to sit in and I have to step over piles of stuff to even get to it. I have not pulled my retired stamp sets off the shelves, I have not put away my retired designer series paper, I have not packed up my retired In Color cardstock. I have done nothing! It's all still out and in the way and I don't have room to unpack the brand new cardstock colors and stamp pads. So the majority of this card is made using retired items.
I wanted to make an elegant birthday card so I used Brocade Background DSP. I sponged all the edges of the DSP and the River Rock cardstock with black ink. It's pretty subtle and adds an antiqued look to the card.
I used mini black brads in all four corners of the card and in the center of each flower. I know you're going to ask me, but I don't remember where I bought them. I just remember that they were on clearance so I bought the last couple of packs they had.
For the bow I stacked two ribbons on top of each other--a wide Black Organdy ribbon and a narrow Ivory Organdy ribbon. I used a little bit of adhesive between the two ribbons to hold them in place so I could tie them.
I used the same basic layout for the inside of my card. This card measures 5 1/4" square. After I finished the card I realized I used a lot of black and it's not an "over the hill" birthday card. What do you think? Too much black? Does it work?
